Asconopsis Irene Dobkin "Elmhurst"

I had this little guy for two year now, and find it surprising that a mini no ID orchid can reveal itself to be something quite rare.
Bought before Christmas in Waitrosse on a sale and I loved the colour, few days ago my friend who came round and deals much much more with orchids saw it and told me that is not just any no ID Phal or mini Phal. Today he came back after he did some digging and told me it's a Asconopsis (an inter-generic hybrid between the orchid genera Ascocentrum and Phalaenopsis (Asctm x Phal)).



The orchid likes a wide range of temperatures from 10 degrees up to 25 degrees or a bit more. I water it once a week, good soaking, fertilize every other week. Started in a 9 inch pot and now it's in a 12 inch one.

 It has vanda like fleshy and strong leaves and is a strong grower.



Flowers freely to be honest, the lovely 1-2 inch flowers in peachy colour last up to 3 months or a bit longer and the orchid can re bloom within another 4 - 5 months after. Quite often it sends out either one flower stalk with a second following days within the last flowers of the first died. Sometimes two stalks which grow just a week or two in difference and then a third will pop up just as the first dies. 
I had a bit of research on it and since it doesn't look like a freely available hybrid and getting one i think is just a lucky accident I am going to propagate and try to get some keikis using a keiki paste. So if anyone would be interested in a free one please get back to me probably next year spring.

Orchid ID: Paphiopedilum Maudiae Green

Paphiopedilum is by far one of my beloved orchids ever, and will always take a crown place in my collection. They are hassle free, don't require any special hot or cold temperatures or humidity. They prefer shadier places and bit more moisture, and the flowers can last for weeks. Paphiopedilum are divided into two cultural groups: the warm growing, more sun tolerant and with mottled leaves - like our famous Maudiae Green, and cold growing with plain leaves, preferring colder temperatures and more shade. Aliceara (Degarmoara) Winter Wonderland 'White Fairy"

I heard about this orchid "it grows like a weed but blooms more beautiful than anything I have ever seen", and I must agree with this term as this Aliceara belongs to the three most beloved by myself orchids. Someone can say it's white and plain, but it's not purely white or plain or definitely not boring. Aliceara (Degarmoara) Winter Wonderland 'White Fairy" has it's parenthood in a cross between  Bratonia Cartagena x Oncidium. Gledhow . It was registered by Bee Lian Nursery in Thailand, on the 1st of January 1989. So from the start, this is a epiphytic growing, intergenetic orchid hybrid, taking many traits from it's both parents.
