There was a parcel I was waiting for for a week now, and I must admit I was quite excited; why would you ask? Ah, simply because I made an order on Orchideen-Wichmann.de onliine store for some things I wanted and had my eye on for sometime.
Particularly it was orchid pots, yes pots! All those plastic ones are nice and neat, but they tend to loose balance, drop from the windowsill and do all sort of funny stuff which then includes cleaning the floor and checking for damage. Furthermore the water evaporates from them quite quickly, especially if you have aeration holes on the sides. It's terrible I'm telling you!
But Orchideen-Wichmann came to the rescue as they have a nice choice of ceramic pots in different sizes and vibrant colors, so why the heck not, I said to myself chappy and ordered 9 pots in different colors! Grass green, cherry red, white and cream - of course standard 12 cm pot size because i only have them, with the exception of the two 15 cm for phalaenopsis orchids.
Oh, right and I ordered another orchid. Yes, another...
Only because it was the most beautiful orchid I have ever behold, a Aliceara Evening Colors. Which in my opinion is the most stunning of all o these hybrids.

It is because I have a weakness for gold/brown colors in orchids.
Anyway the postman came with the delivery today; had to chase him because yesterday he couldn't find the address - silly man.
When i reached underneath the layers of paper my excitation froze when i heard something similar to rattling. As it came out, two out of four of my green pots were cracked. Which is such a big shame! Because the color is wonderful, very fresh and juicy. Like young grass in the morning light.
I had to take pictures of the damage and sent out a email to the shop to see what can they offer me in exchange. But hey! let's dig deeper! And there it was a very big bag with the plant in it! nicely wrapped and protected from the elements. I must admit the surprise was big, plenty of pseudobulbs, nice clear leaves, everything plum! The only thing to do was to re-pot to a bigger container and water.
Especially because the first thing i noticed was the rotten medium. Took it out of the pot, started cleaning the roots and... woah the plant fell apart in two in my hands. Am still kind of shocked with the memory, because I checked and the main rhizome wasn't broken or cut and the roots weren't connected; just tangled but there was no natural connection!
So there can only be one solution, as I can see this plant was growing in this pot since a seedling it must have happened that whomever was planting the orchids in the pots placed two plants in one forgetting to separate them later.
Suddenly I don't really mind those broken pots! Instead of one orchid, I have two of the most beautiful there. Not only they are healthy but big and well grown, something I would pay double for.
Lucky or what, eh?
