New orchid update...

Hey everyone, bit of a time gap here because I'm very busy at work and I need to study - which I ended not, because I'm mentally exhausted!

However I made some new orchid purchases within the last month!
Yay me. Yay more orchids!

The problem is I don't have any more space on my windowsill and I still would like to have some more plants - the dilemma of living with the family.

Anyway, orchids. Update.

Here we go.

First of all I must say I have a weakness for young orchids, especially very young ones. Partially because they are young and I have a bigger influence on how will they grow and perform, especially If I can support them with the best possible environment to develop and also I will be the one to see first flowers and just following the growth is so exciting and entertaining. Something that is not for people without patience.

First of all...

Wilsonara Caramel Gold.

It's a Wilsonara, right I never had anything to do with this intergenetic type, I know they are a Odontoglossum/Oncidium Alliance orchids but I can't find anything anywhere on this particular cross. It is supposed to be a new, quite rare hybrid that isn't very popular. Well wow, on one hand it's so cool because I have something that not everyone does, but I will have to take the rough road to learn how to grow it.
I only know it's a seedling, and that watering and light is just as Odontoglossum. Beside that the flowers are 1 to 2 inch big in colours of Caramel and gold feathering and spots. Well... what can I say... I love golds and yellows and oranges in orchids...

Odontionia Stirbic 116 Purple

I know a bit about this one, mostly because there is a few Stirbic types and they are very showy. I mean like amazing purple and orange tiger plants or white with red painted details showy. So this version is one of them, however it's more of a blood red/dark purple with white markings. Which I just find so interesting I had to go there, especially that it was a plug plant. Saying this, I have never seen such a healthy plug plant! It had more roots than a year old oncidium, that's like wow. Hopefully it will grow happily and quickly.

Yes this is a Odontoglossum hybrid, so care and requirements will be similar. Water well, don't stick out in the sun, avoid leaf burn, don't leave roots in standing water because everything will go mushy and all hell will let loose.
That kind of stuff.

Aliceara Tahoma Glacier

I had to. I just had to, not because I love this plant so much but I am oddly attracted to it, however it took me over 3 months to decide to get it. Yes it's a plug plant, although I ordered a full grown and Ray from Ray orchids accidentally sent me a seedling. Never mind, he was amazing and sent me the correct plant - well not the correct because i asked him for a cheeky swap for the two above. Yes, because he is a great guy like that.
Anyway, i like the white spider like, star flowers and since I have the Peggy Ruth I thought I should have the other similar Aliceara. Especially, since the care and requirements are identical.

This is all from the seedlings, now I also ordered some big, big orchids which hopefully will bloom soon (like in 6 to 9 months time soon).

Vuylstekeara Yokara Perfection x Oncidium leucochilum

Yes, this is the Cambria named orchid which I made a ID article about and seriously I am surprised this doesn't have a official name! It should!
I see the pictures and am so in love, and I hate pink. No, no, no... pink is bad. But not on this orchid, because it's with these wonderful patterns.
Probably if I ever end up getting myself a conservatory/greenhouse this will be a hybridising base for me.
So much beautiful orchid babies to be born!
But anyway please see the article in my earlier entry to have a more extensive read about this beauty.

Neofinetia falcata - The absolute magic - Comprehensive guide and knowledge

Neofinetia orchids are a genus of the orchid family, related to vanda family. This genus in total combines of 3 species, three found in China, two in Korea and one in Japan. But it’s the single Japanese species that is the prise jewel of the family and on this one species – Neofinetia falcata I will concentrate. A lot of material contained in this entry comes from external sources that will be listed at the bottom for reference. Neofinetia falcata starts shrouded in a local myth. The orchid is known under two names, Furan – meaning Wind orchid or the Samurai Orchid. It’s claimed that Shogun Tokugawa lenari fell in love with the plant and its beauty and a samurai was sent to help in searching and collecting the plants from the mountains. It is arguably the first orchid ever to be grown with intention as a house plant from the early 1600s in Japan. Furan, the Japanese name for “Neofinetia falcata,” started to be replaced by ‘Fuuki-ran’ meaning ‘the rich and nobl

Banfieldara Gilded Tower 'Mystic Maze'

There is perhaps this one orchid you like, well not entirely like. It's more like a curious unconscious attraction, but you are not sure why and not really sure if you would want this plant. You saw it somewhere online, or at your friends or at a show and still there is plenty other orchids you would rather buy than this. Yeah, this is me in this case and Banfieldara Gilded Tower is my such problem. I don't own this orchid (yet) and I'm not sure if it's love or hate or both at the same time. I really like it but I don't. "Mystic Maze" is a rather complex cross of Brassidium Gilded Urchin and Rhyncada (Adaglossum)Summit, yes that is a mouthful. The parentage is viable in the intense colors and the spider shape of the flower, also in the vigorous growth pattern and very tall and long flower spikes. It is also a thirsty orchid that requires a good potting mix, able to retain moisture and watering twice a week during the summer period when the temp

Aliceara (Degarmoara) Winter Wonderland 'White Fairy"

I heard about this orchid "it grows like a weed but blooms more beautiful than anything I have ever seen", and I must agree with this term as this Aliceara belongs to the three most beloved by myself orchids. Someone can say it's white and plain, but it's not purely white or plain or definitely not boring. Aliceara (Degarmoara) Winter Wonderland 'White Fairy" has it's parenthood in a cross between  Bratonia Cartagena x Oncidium. Gledhow . It was registered by Bee Lian Nursery in Thailand, on the 1st of January 1989. So from the start, this is a epiphytic growing, intergenetic orchid hybrid, taking many traits from it's both parents. Saying this it will require quite similar care and watering routine. The flowers seem to be white but they sometimes show a painted green shadow that beautifully marks the centre of the petal maroon spots in random order. In this setting it resembles the features of a white lilly. The flowers have a faint, t
