Normally I would make a small introduction just to create a sense of a prelude to the post however I think on this ocassion there is no point. Miltoniopsis HerrAlexandre is probably the most recognasible and popular of all miltoniopsis orchids in the last decade. Its the orchid people will see and love and immediately know what it is.
It's the child of miltoniopsis Alexander Dumas and miltoniopsis Herrenhausen, and it has been registered in 1992 and since then it has been sort of a star in the orchid world. It's snow white flowers with the berry like spots and the yellow spot in the middle have a hipnotising effect. They allso lure you with the delightful and oh so juicy citrus - floral fragrance. It's a must have.
Similiary to Miltoniopsis Newton Falls it belongs to the more compact of its kind and the foliage will grow to around 35 cm but with the flower spike the overall height of the plant can reach up to 60 cm. This cross is well known to carry two flower spikes during the bloom season, and when healthy and it's peak condition it will have up to 10 or 12 flowers on a flower spike - each flower beaing up to 5 inches big.
Being so big, bold and beautiful it's hard to resit and bring this plant to your house. You must thou remember that as I mentioned in my previous post, miltoniopsis can seem tricky if you don't know how to take care of them. They need a good potting medium - one which is going to be moisture retentive and airy. This mean it won't allow the roots to die out.
It also like being feed well and watered often. This means the usuall once every week when in bloom and every other when in growth season and it will pay back with love.
You can find this beauty in all big stores and local plant nurseries and garden shops during winter and spring time when they will be in bloom and trust me you won't miss it. However make sure to choose a plant which has a lot of new growth and a good root system as a plant which is in poor condition may take quite a long time to recover.
